Pleural plaques claims

If you have been diagnosed with pleural plaques and this is due to your work, you may be entitled to make a pleural plaques compensation claim.

Pleural Thickening is a condition of the lungs which is most commonly associated with the inhalation of and prolonged exposure to asbestos particles. These particles settle on the pleura, or the pleural membrane (which is the thin area that surrounds the lungs), resulting in the area thickening or scarring. This scarring is not reversible and leads to the lungs not functioning properly.

Many workers who have been exposed to asbestos have suffered from pleural thickening, although the condition can be linked to several other causes such as infection, chemotherapy and drugs. We can help you make a claim for pleural thickening compensation.

Making a Claim

People suffering from pleural thickening as a result of workplace asbestos may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. If the areas of thickening are widespread, breathing can become difficult. This condition is known as diffuse pleural thickening. Pleural thickening may affect one or both of the lungs. When the tissue hardens, lungs are prevented from functioning properly, resulting in breathlessness. If asbestos is the cause, other illnesses can arise such as mesothelioma and asbestosis.

Talk to us today

Pleural plaques are areas of scar tissue found on the pleura. In most cases, people can live their lives happily with no symptoms after pleural plaques develop, but the plaques can be instrumental in proving that you have been exposed to workplace asbestos in the past. Showing that you have been exposed can strengthen your case if you do develop another asbestos-related illness. Talk to us today if you’re interested in finding out more about pleural plaques compensation or making pleural plaques claims.

Strengthening Your Case

If you suspect that past exposure to asbestos has led to pleural thickening, you should consult your GP. Your GP will help you to confirm this by sending you for a scan or x-ray. If pleural thickening is diagnosed and the condition can be linked to asbestos in the workplace, you may be able to make a claim.

At Blackwater Law, we’re experts when it comes to pleural thickening cases and have helped many people to claim the compensation that is rightfully theirs. Having successfully fought for justice on behalf of hundreds of people making pleural thickening claims, we can be relied upon to offer you the advice and support that you need.

Seeking Justice

Asbestos was only banned from the workplace in 1999 after its dangers were uncovered. It was used prominently between the 1960s and early 1990s which means that you may find yourself making a pleural thickening claim long after being exposed to it.  Sadly many people have passed away after developing an asbestos-related illness, but we have helped their families seek justice after their deaths.

We pride ourselves on communicating clearly and effectively with our clients, so call Blackwater Law today if you think you may have a case.
