£20,000 Settlement Secured Following Negligent Care at Care Home

Tancha Porter successfully secured a £20,000 settlement for her client, acting on behalf of her late father, following negligent treatment at a Care Home.

Mr C was admitted to the care home on 17 August 2022, initially as a temporary resident before becoming permanent. Over the course of his stay, the standard of care provided fell significantly below acceptable levels, ultimately contributing to his death on 4th December 2022.

Despite clear signs of deterioration in Mr C’s health, including significant weight loss, dehydration, and repeated falls, staff failed to escalate concerns or seek timely medical attention. Fluid intake was not properly monitored, and care plans lacked the necessary detail and escalation strategies. In one instance, a blister was deliberately burst without appropriate supervision, and there were delays in contacting dental services after Mr C’s dentures went missing.

Mr C was admitted to hospital on 28 November 2022 in a critically ill state, suffering from sepsis, acute kidney injury, and severe dehydration. Tragically, he passed away just days later. Medical evidence confirmed that with appropriate care, Mr C would likely have survived his final illness.

Tancha was instructed in October 2023, and despite the complexity of the case and the sensitive nature of the claim, she was able to secure a pre-action settlement in May 2025, avoiding the need for court proceedings. The legal argument focused on the care home’s failure to provide adequate nursing care, which directly contributed to Mr C’s suffering and premature death.
