Senior Associate Anna Watson successfully secured £140,000 on behalf of her client, a minor who tragically suffered the loss of her mother.
Miss F’s mother, had given birth to her 3rd child and was subsequently discharged home. A few days later, the deceased reported symptoms of cramping in her calf and was examined by a midwife, but no swelling, hot spots or red marks were identified. The deceased then attended an out-of-hours walk in centre complaining of pain in her shoulder and was prescribed painkillers.
A few days later, the deceased attended her local GP surgery where she was prescribed antibiotics for a suspected infection and was sent home. However, upon her return home she collapsed and an ambulance was called. Unfortunately, on arrival at hospital she was pronounced dead.
Anna Watson was instructed at a later stage of the claim, when a conflict of interest had arisen between the dependents. Through a Litigation Friend on behalf of the dependent, Anna was able to make an application to join the Dependant to the proceedings as a Second Claimant. This allowed Miss F to obtain her own medical evidence and be separately represented. Due to the complexities of the case, it was listed for a 7 day trial. However, all parties attended a Joint Settlement Meeting and Anna was able to secure a strong settlement on behalf of Miss F.
