Medical Negligence Solicitor, Tom Kamlow represented the family of a deceased man who died because of the administration of blood thinning medication after sustaining a brain haematoma.
The deceased, Mr G, suffered from a fall in a care home and was admitted to hospital. On admission, a CT scan revealed a bleed on his brain. Mr G had previously been on blood thinning medication before admission, which was stopped once in the hospital.
It was decided that if Mr G showed no further deterioration, he would be allowed to return to the care home. Unfortunately, he developed a chest infection whilst in hospital, which meant a continuation of all regular medicines, including the blood thinners.
Throughout Mr G’s care, there were multiple failures in communication between hospital staff with some not knowing that he had been taken off the blood thinners in the first place.
After Mr G’s condition began to deteriorate, another CT scan was performed which revealed a large increase in the size of the bleed.
Mr G was discharged back to the care home, where he sadly died a day later.
As a result of restarting the blood thinners, he suffered an avoidable large brain bleed, brain compression, pain, suffering and ultimately death.
In the absence of this negligence, Mr G would have probably survived the initial bleed and recovered to his previous condition.
Medical negligence solicitor Tom Kamlow successfully negotiated a settlement for the family to reflect the two to three years of life lost due to the negligence.
