Blackwater Law were able to secure compensation for their client after an accident at work led to them requiring the amputation of fingers on their right hand.
Our client, Mr B sustained a life-changing injury when his right dominant hand became caught upon the circular saw blade at work. At the time of the accident, Mr B was working as a packer/manual assistant.
The circumstances of the accident were that our client, who has learning difficulties, was instructed by his employer to catch and remove off-cuts of wood from the circular saw table and put them in the nearby bin. He was given no prior training for managing woodworking safely, nor for safe use of woodworking machines and was not provided with adequate personal protective equipment.
Whilst trying to remove smaller offcuts closer to the blade of the saw, the blade caught on his glove and snatched his right hand into the blade.
Mr B suffered substantial lacerations to his right hand, resulting in partial amputation to his middle and ring finger below the nail and a loss of the tip of the little finger and index finger of his right hand.
Mr B required surgery to contain the damage and will likely suffer from permanent injuries including cold sensitivity to the hand, as well as reduced grip strength which will impact the dexterity of the hand.
While the defendant in question did not fully admit the liability for the accident, Blackwater Law were able to successfully secure substantial compensation for her client, in challenging circumstances, which will help replace the client’s lost earnings suffered as a result of the said accident.
